No Heat - Below is a check list before you call: 1) Be sure the oil burner switch is on. 2) Make sure thermostat is set above room temperatures, and the batteries are good. 3) Make sure there is oil in the tank. 4) Press reset button ONCE ONLY! 5) Check for blown or loose fuse.

Installing an on-demand or tankless water heater can save up to 30% on your utility bill compared with a standard storage tank water heater. They are also more energy efficient; standard hot water tanks have an energy factor of approximately .60. Translation: approximately 60% of the energy generated is used to heat the water, and 40% of that heat is lost in this process. Tankless water heaters have a .80 – .99 energy factor. You will greatly reduce your heat loss & use less fuel.

Repair all leaks. A leaky toilet can waste 200 gallons per day. To detect leaks in the toilet, add food coloring to the tank water. If the colored water appears in the bowl, the toilet is leaking.

A dirty filter blocks the flow of heat, which in turn can boost utility bills. 2) Shut the flue to the fireplace when not in use. If you have a glass screen, close that as well. Open fireplaces allow heat to escape. 3) Hang dry washables on a drying rack set in a warm room. It’s an easy way to save money on laundry. Once dry, put them in the dryer on wrinkle release.

Utility Saving Tips: 1) Dry With a Towel - A clean, dry towel added to a wet load absorbs moisture and could decrease drying time by 25%. 2) Insulate your windows, especially in older homes. Seal the frame with clear plastic cling wrap. Window film is cheap, easy to apply, and remove. It will only cost a few bucks, but the savings on your heating bill will be big. 3) If you have a room in your house that people rarely enter, consider closing off all the vents in that room. This will prevent you from paying to heat uninhabited space.

Utility Saving Tips: 1. Fluctuating Prices - A little-known fact is that some electricity providers charge different rates at different hours. That’s because there are “off-peak periods” during which less people than usual require energy. These might include holidays, weekends, and weekdays from approximately 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. In fact, prices can vary by as much as 40 percent, so planning on doing your laundry at night or very early in the morning could save you money.
